
Here is a brief summary of the current requirements needed by overseas veterinary surgeons wishing to work in the UK together with some useful links to information and advice regarding each requirements.
Skilled Worker Visa (introduced in 2021 after Brexit): by far the most common Visa option for veterinary surgeons seeking to work in the UK and which involves points system.
This requires a job offer from a licensed sponsor, a certificate of sponsorship from your employer, and meeting certain salary requirements.
There are other visa options available in certain circumstances so please see the information regarding these and whether they apply to you.
English Language Proficiency: You will need to demonstrate your English language proficiency at an acceptable level.
The IELTS and OET language tests are both recognised ways of gaining the proficiency required to work as a veterinary surgeon in the UK.
RCVS Registration: You must be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) to practice as a veterinary surgeon in the UK. This requires your veterinary degree to be recognised by the RCVS.

If a veterinary degree is not automatically recognised, you may need to take an RCVS statutory membership examination.
