Registering With The Royal College Of Veterinary Surgeons

Requirements and Process:

Veterinary degree : You must have a veterinary degree from a recognised university.

English Language Proficiency : You must be able to communicate effectively in English. You can demonstrate this by taking the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Occupational English Test (OET).Veterinary surgeons from English speaking countries such as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Canada and USA are exempt from this requirement.

Good Standing : You must be in good standing with your current veterinary regulatory body.

Check your Eligibility : Visit the RCVS website to see if your veterinary degree is recognised. Please contact us for a full list of currently RCVS recognised veterinary surgeon qualifications from around the world.

Gather Your Documents : You will need to provide copies of your veterinary degree, proof of your English language proficiency if applicable and a letter of good standing from your current veterinary regulatory body.

Submit your application online.

Pay the Fee: There is a fee for registering with the RCVS which is currently £200.

Wait for a Decision : The RCVS will review your application and let you know their decision within 4 weeks.

Additional Information:

​If your veterinary degree is not recognised, you may need to take the RCVS Statutory Membership Examination.

The RCVS registration process in this case can take several months.

Once you are registered with the RCVS, you will be able to practice as a veterinarian in the UK.
