
The UK government has a points-based system for skilled workers, including veterinary surgeons, who want to work in the UK.
To be eligible for a Skilled Worker visa, you must achieve a minimum number of 70 points.
Here's a breakdown of the points system:
Job offer: You must have a job offer from an employer that is a licensed sponsor. This will contribute 20 points towards your total.
Salary: Your salary must be at least £26,200 per year which is below the average minimum starting salary for a permanent, full time vet position. This will contribute 10 to 20 points towards your total.
Skills and qualifications: You must have the required skills and qualifications for the job, only a RCVS approved veterinary qualification will qualify for working as a veterinary surgeon in the UK.This will contribute 20 points to your total. Note : A PHD qualification in a particular subject can earn you an additional 10 to 20 points.
English language: You must be able to speak English to an acceptable standard, overseas vets from non English speaking countries can achieve this through the IELTS or OET tests. This will contribute 10 points to your total.
Shortage occupation: Veterinary surgeons are currently a shortage occupation in the UK. This will contribute 20 points to your total.
